The role
The Sir George at Jugiong is hiring four to six front-of-house staff for the full 2026-27 season. First on the floor in October, through to Anzac Day, 25 April 2027. The roles are casual, but we are asking for a full-season commitment and full availability, and we are prioritising people who can give it. For the right two the role can become permanent when the season ends.
It’s bar and floor work in a pub that seats more than 400 when the weather is good: the bar, the restaurant, the beer garden and functions. From November the trade is functions and dining, and Easter is the last big rush. Floor shifts run from 10 or 11 through to close with an hour’s break, around 30 to 35 hours a week; the pub is licensed to 11pm, with a midnight finish on event nights. The roster aims for two consecutive days off.
What’s on offer
- $33.05 an hour on Level 1 if you are new to this, $33.85 on Level 2 with an RSA and experience (Hospitality Award casual, loading included), plus weekend and public holiday penalties and 12% superannuation. Around 30 to 35 hours a week for the whole season. On either level that is about $1,300 a week before tax for a 35-hour week with a Saturday and a Sunday in it, plus super.
- A private room in staff housing, $150 a week. Shared living areas with the rest of the team.
- Two days off together is what the roster is built to give with a full team of six.
- Two of these roles could become permanent after the season, for the people who have earned it.
- Working holiday makers are welcome if you can commit to the full season. Jugiong does not count toward the 88 days of specified work for a second-year visa, so register knowing that.
Who this is for
You can start with no experience: someone steady when the beer garden is full. Bar experience is a plus; cocktails can be taught.
You’ll need:
- A NSW Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate to serve alcohol. The course can be done online, and the interim certificate lets you start straight away.
- The right to work in Australia for the length of the season.
- A car helps. The nearest towns are about 40 km away, and staff without one carpool on days off.
The pub
The Sir George is a restored 1850s pub on the Murrumbidgee at Jugiong, just off the Hume Highway, with luxury rooms in the old stone stables and barns, a bar, a beer garden and function spaces. The kitchen cooks from local produce. Gundagai, Cootamundra and Harden are about 40 km away; Canberra and Wagga Wagga about 120 km.
